Goodbye Gwin

We had to put Gwin to sleep last night. His health was quite a yoyo for a while, he'd seem like he would be doing really good (relatively) and he'd be off wobblingly getting into mischief. Followed by the next day lethargic and not terribly interested in food, and the next day good again. We think he had lymphoma, which apparently the reason for the yoyoing health.

He was actually doing quite well Wednesday, then Thursday he could barely move. Friday was no better. As he had gone from reasonable quality of life (though sick) to basically no quality of life it would be selfish to keep him hanging on just because I didn't want to let him go. So we let him go.

We're going to bury him this weekend.

Scottie was crumpling up phone book pages to fill a box with, so they could dig around.


We filled the box with more paper after I took those pictures.


After we added more paper, we made a little opening on the side and on the top. They loved to go inside and dig around (and then sleep of course).
I remember being amused because his head and tail were sticking out of the box.

Chaos seems to be alright so far. He's getting ALL THE HUGS from us atm so he's certainly not lacking for attention (he might even argue that he'd just like to go play nao thanks). I'm not sure if we'll get him another buddy, I want him to be happy but it's hard to think about that quite yet.

Oh, Tanya (and Scottie, if you are reading). I am so, so, SO sorry for your loss. :(

We had to put my dog to sleep two summers ago because she had cancer too, and it was legitimately one of the worst days of my life. Losing a pet, any pet, is rotten.

It's always hard to lose a pet! I'm sorry about your poor puppy. :( Losing Gwin is certainly in my worst days too, it's really hard to make that decision! Especially when you can't ask them what they want, but if they're only suffering it's the last kindness you can give them. *hugs*

So far Chaos seems ok, but if he gets depressed we'll look more seriously at getting him a new friend. I think that we probably will anyway so that he's not lonely, but just not yet. n_n'

Yeah i wouldn't rush into it, but maybe even consider a kit, they're crazy fun and its awesome watching what their personality becomes

It could be fun to get a kit. n_n It's always fun seeing the tiny ferts since ours were so much bigger! We're not going to rush into anything of course though, since it's going to take a bit to get over Gwin first. n_n'

Oh, no. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It's difficult to make that decision, but it seems like the best course of action. He certainly had a great home while he was with you and Scottie.

I'm glad you mentioned Chaos, though, too. I hope he will be okay just bonding deeper with the both of you, but perhaps down the line another ferret might be a good addition. In due time. Your hearts need to heal.

Chaos seems to be doing alright, but in the future we'll probably get him a new friend. I certainly don't want him to be lonely, but we do need to mourn Gwin first.
