milleniumgypsy: (Bambi with Thumper)
So yesterday I finished my deer fawn sculpt's paint! First I painted him all over with a brown, then I did a white dry brush over everything. Then I painted the fawn spots and the other white detailing. Then I did a darker stain over the whole sculpt, brightened the white details again, and now he's done. :3

This fawn had some issues. He'd fallen over during the baking and broken the front left foot. I'd reglued it, which worked fine because the break was very clean. The one bad thing is that the foot had turned slightly, apparently as it had fallen over. So he's slightly pigeon toed, but it's not terribly noticeable. He also ended up with a broken ear after I'd painted the base coat, I'd picked up the work surface and he fell on the floor on the ear. It was easy to fix and after painting you couldn't even tell it was ever broken, but sheesh! Hard luck fawn!

The paint work really makes all the difference this one is adorable. Have you thought more about whether you want to make sculptures like this for sale? I can easily picture these things decorate flower pots, window sills or even gardens! Depending on whether they would survive the elements, of course.

Thank you! :D Painting really changes how the sculpts look, it's been really fun to bring out their potential! :D

I would definitely like to sell sculpts in the future, that's totally a dream of mine. :3
I'm not entirely certain how these guys would hold up in the elements, though super sculpey is supposed to be pretty durable, and if I put the right sealant over the paint that should be safe. I also plan on casting things in the future, I've cast things in resin before and I have the stuff to make molds. Perhaps if the main sculpts couldn't endure the elements I could cast something that could! xD
