I have a question for all you wonderful people out there.

I am looking for Scottie's wedding ring- but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to surprise him with it, or if he can see it. Or if he can even help pick out the ring. I looked online but I didn't find the most useful stuffs. I'm not sure if that's because I'm tired though.

Also, any married peoples on my list have any hints on how to plan a wedding? I don't know a whole lot about weddings and planning on is starting to make me stressed. xP

Now, off to cuddle with my Scottie and go to sleep. *yawn*

I'm no expert, but I'm my cousins bridesmaid in November, and I've been helping her plan, so I know a little and it might be helpful :)

Unless its for religious reasons, I don't see any reason why he cant see the ring. Generally your engagement ring is the flashy one and the wedding bands are plain gold or silver (sometimes with a single stone in the middle) and match each others. Of course, none of that matters if its not what you want!

As for planning, start with the big things. Venue, photographer, BUDGET, reception, dress and suits, etc. You cant do anything until you pick a date, so do that first. It doesn't have to be definite, but it will let you get an idea of whether things like the venue and photographer and celebrant ,etc are booked. You can always set a tentative date and then change it to suit the availability of those people to ensure you get the ones you want. Once you have the date you can start booking things (and more importantly, start paying, which will lighten the load down the track).

Maybe, if your budget allows for it, book a few hours with a wedding planner. You don't have to use them for everything, but they could give you some guidance and tell you about things that tend to be forgotten or neglected.

The internet will be your biggest tool. Google "wedding checklist", or something similar. Also, the library. Borrow wedding magazines (they tend to be expensive, so I'd go to the library so you can get a variety) and photocopy pages of interest. Theres probably wedding books you can borrow too. Talk to anybody you know who's been married friends, colleagues, even your parents, ask them for advice. They may even have old pamphlets or magazines or business cards to pass on or lend to you. Talk to the staff in bridal shops too, they will often have good advice or resources.

Keep a folder or a scrapbook with everything and anything. Try and keep it slightly organized :P Cut out anything that takes your fancy. You may see a picture in a magazine, for instance, that you fall in love with and might want to incorporate somehow - maybe in your invitations? Personal touches usually make a wedding. Thats another point, think back to weddings you've been too. What made them especially good or bad? Keep those things in mind when planning your own wedding.

My ring will be the flashy one, however our bands are going to be a bit fancier than just a plain band. My band will be a white gold ring with leaves that match my ring. The place that Scottie got my engagement ring makes a matching wedding band, so that's what I'm getting. Scottie wants a simple but unique ring, and he was hoping for a two tone ring. We found this together after I found that I didn't need to keep it a surprise. Well within my budjet and we both love it! Clicky! So far for the wedding planning, we're going to have it by the lake by my gramma's house. We didn't want a church wedding. I have my dress being made, the bridesmaids have their dresses picked out, I don't have an exact budget, Scottie has his eye on his clothes for him and his groomsmen, etc. The date is picked too.

I'll have to find a wedding checklist online, that should be helpful! The library tip I'll also have to keep in mind! I think I'm going to bug my friend Krissy a bit about her wedding, though asking my mom would be sort of silly I suppose. She has been married 3 times but the first one was the only one with any sort of a ceremony, and it was just a tiny affair. I wish I'd been to more than one wedding! lol

Thank you for all of the tips! :D

There's no reason he can't help pick out a ring. In fact, I'd strongly suggest that he help, and that way it'll be something he'll definitely want to wear. Mondera.com and BlueNile.com are two sites I'd highly recommend. (We bought Derek's at Mondera, and since all I wanted was a plain platinum band, we bought mine off eBay--I could find the seller again, if you're interested in that, because they did quality work for not too much. But the bands are very simple, of course.)

As for planning, yeah, search the internet. I would help out more--I had soooo many websites bookmarked!--but I accidentally lost all my favorited sites. >.< I'll see if any are in my email folders, though. A lot of my info was local to WA state, of course, but there are a lot of general-plan sites out there.

Oh, and if you do a registry, both Target and Amazon offer online ones. I did both; they were both very easy to add to. Target's advantage is that people can buy items in store, of course. Amazon's advantage was that THEY actually TOLD me who bought what--Target was much less forthcoming! Made it hard to write thank you notes, haha.

Okay! I found a few. Yay!

About.com has a whole lot about weddings, and it's actually really helpful; here's the budget link, but they have much more, too
Another budget link

We bought invitations from Michaels and my parents printed them at home

Custom M&Ms (we got these, big hit, very cool)
Party favors in bulk
Another party favor site
And yet another party favor site

An article on why honeymoons can kind of suck (I didn't go on a honeymoon; we used that money to go to a concert later)

Thanks for all of the links! I'll definetly have to check them out! One of the ring sites you directed me to had a ring that was almost what he wanted, and then I searched on looking for a ring with that sort of look and found the perfect ring! I told Scottie about the Target and Amazon registries, and he was very excited about Amazon lol.

Take him to any random jewelry store and have him try on the ring sizers. You can then surprise him with one you picked out later.

Well, I wanted to surprise him but I also wanted him to have what he wanted. We did go to a jewelry store though to find out his ring size, unfortunetly they didn't even pay any attention to us! Oh well, we found a ring sizer online and we'll use that. We also found a ring together, and it's perfect! Clicky if you'd like to see! Spiffy icon btw, I have that icon too lol!
