So I woke up this morning to see that it is... snowing. Dear weather, it's not even October yet. Could you perhaps wait a bit. Thanks. Oh Alaska... how I hate you.
It's not that odd for me, I've always lived in cold places. Where I grew up, I was always happy when the snow would hold off until after Halloween, because trick or treating in a winter jacket and boots wasn't as fun as people actually being able to see your costume. "No seriously, there is a witch dress under here! DX"
This summer is kind of disappointing though, August was basically fall weather (not even nice fall weather, but cold rainy overcast fall weather!) and the rest of it was apparently rather poor. This is the first real summer I've been able to have in three years, so I was hoping it would have been better! Of course, if I was out in at my old field camp the weather there was worse than the previous years awful weather, so I'm insanely happy that I didn't have to go through that again!
do you get really warm summers there or is it always nice fall type weather. Do you have trouble with depression in Alaska in general - you know people just not getting enough sunlight and sunshine? Or do you have plenty of sunshine even on the coldest days?
It's hard for me to say really how the summers usually are, I've literally been out at field camp for the previous 3 summers in a totally different location. It was at the mouth of the Yukon river, where I said we usually got a week's worth of summer. It was overcast, cold, and rainy most of the time otherwise, very few sunny days. :P The first summer here is the only one I've spent at home besides this one! I seem to remember it was pretty nice, but I was stuck inside for much of it because I'd sprained my ankle badly at the beginning of it. xP This summer was pretty nice from like May I think to July-ish. August was mostly overcast rain. xP It never got terribly warm though, there were a few warm days but most of them were only in the high 70s I think. I know there's a lot of trouble with depression in Alaska because in the winter there's like no sun (so not getting any in the summer either has made living here less than ideal). Apparently the summers are usually nicer though, and the days when the sun is out forever are pretty awesome.
My problems with depression have certainly been the worst since moving here, but the things that have happened since are the main reasons for my PTSD, so it's hard to say exactly what is at fault for my feelings. n_n'
It's a shame there wasn't much of a summer this year :(
Sure I understand. I always feel so much better when the sun is shining you know? Cloudy, grey days seem to drag me down further into a dark place. I hope the winter brings lots of winter sunshine with it's crisp white snow.
