milleniumgypsy: (Lovely)
Tonight Scottie and I had a date night! We went to see Oz the Great and Powerful! I saw previews for it the last time we were at the theater (for Scottie's birthday in January, when we saw Les Mis) and I'd wanted to see it. :3 We used to go to the movies a lot, but we haven't gone very often the last couple of years (a mix of cost issues and me being too antsy to get me into a theatre).

But tonight we decided to go! The cheap theatre was playing Oz so that worked out well. :3

I thought the movie was quite cute and funny! I'm going to avoid being spoilery, but I wanted to talk about a character that was introduced in the movie.

The little china doll girl. I hadn't seen her in the (one?) preview I'd seen, so when I saw her I was squeeing like mad. SHE HAS BALL JOINTS! SHE'S LIKE THE SIZE OF A BJD. SHE IS SOOOO CUTE OMGGGGGGGGGG. I liked the movie quite a bit but by far she was my favorite part of the movie. xD

I was a bit surprised by the wicked sisters. I figured Evanora would be the wicked witch, I mean, she was shown as an evil witch in sparkling green. I didn't think Theodora, who didn't seem evil at first- just tempermental, and was dressed in red would end up actually being the wicked witch instead. The colors were a red herring! lol

My one complaint is that in some of the opening scenes in Oz, when we were looking at scenery, the movie didn't translate into 2D well. We weren't watching the 3D version, so I wasn't expecting the scenes to be all weird and blurry like you were watching a 3D movie without the glasses. I don't know what happened there because it wasn't an issue for the rest of the movie though. o_O

I took a picture of my Soah yesterday and didn't post it yet. Here's my lovely Soah holding Frankie. Not the fanciest picture but I thought it turned out nice enough. n_n

Those dolls absolutely creep me out. I've been terrified of them since I was little and my grandmother and sisters always insisted on getting them for me for my birthday or Christmas. I understood how collectable and valuable they were, but people just didn't understand that I was PETRIFIED of them. They always ended up stashed in my closet with a barricade against the door. Hee hee...

But that is a lovely picture of a very haunting looking and beautiful bjd.

I'm looking forward to seeing Oz the Great and Powerful. But I'll have to wait until it comes out.

That's too bad that your family insisted on getting you dolls when you obviously didn't like them though. xP My family got me porcelain dolls when I was growing up, but I asked for them! hehe I kept most of them at my room at my gramma's house. On night my brother needed to stay in my room there and he was so creeped out by my cabinet of dolls that he went and slept in the landing instead. lol

I'm glad that you like the picture even though you find dolls creepy! I think Soah is so pretty so I like to share her with the world. :3

Oz was a pretty fun movie!

I saw that movie in 3D at IMAX. Visually it was awesome but I wasn't too keen on James Franco. That may just be me though. I love The Wizard of Oz and it may eventually make its way into my collection.

I think the movie would probably have been improved visually if I watched it in 3D! If I'm going to the theatre I'm usually going for a movie that will have impressive visuals because otherwise I might just wait to see it at home. The scenes that were most focused on visuals often weren't rendered very well for 2D. xP

I thought Franco did pretty well, but I can totally see not feeling him!

I wrote a pretty passionate response to that movie after I'd seen it, if you want to check it out: http://users.livejournal.com/unnecessary_/552370.html

I still haven't gotten around to seeing Oz the Great & Powerful yet. They make dolls of the China Doll from the movie (all the other characters, too...though the witches & the wizard are more Barbie-like)...I don't know if she's ball jointed like in the films. They had her at Toys R Us.

Your Soah is beautiful. The color of her hair is stunning!

I think the movie was fun!

I didn't realize they made dolls of the China Doll, but that makes sense. I haven't been to TRU for a while, I'll have to go check her out! I'd assume that she wouldn't be a true BJD, but it would be alright if she was a psuedo BJD. xD

Thank you! That's my most favorite wig for her. I forget exactly what the color was called (carrot something?), but it's from from Monique wigs. :3

You've reminded me that I still need to watch Oz The Great and Powerful - I missed it in theatres here because my ex opted to not go with me and instead go with someone else... and then I just felt sort of soured on the whole thing for a while. But as I adore Oz and that's not getting taken from me I'm going to see if I can't watch the movie on the weekend :)

I hope that you enjoy it! I had fun with it. n_n

I understand waiting to see it after the ex thing, but it's good to go watch it anyway! You certainly don't want to let sourness from an ex stop you from doing something you want to do. :3

It was a good movie, not my favourite Oz film but I did enjoy it. I definitely refuse to let anything from an ex sour me on things I enjoy. I did want to give myself time so that I didn't go into the film grumpy. I'm doing much better now :)
