milleniumgypsy: (okami)
So yesterday I did some sculpting, though it ended up not amounting to much. I was sculpting the chest skin folds and I just couldn't seem to make it turn out right. So since I didn't seem to get anywhere I didn't post about it. lol

I did continue sculpting tonight though and I got a lot done! I took a different approach to the chest area this time, I actually treated it more like fabric and that really helped. I ended up getting the effect I was looking for, which was nice. It took me a lot longer to do that than I expected.

Then I attached the legs, did some more sculpting on the face, sculpted the hips and shoulders, and have furred the bottom half of the dog. I was hoping to get the rest of the dog done tonight, but that was a bit ambitious.

Tomorrow I should be able to finish it though! I just have to fur the top half of the dog, then sculpt and add the ears and tail. Then baking of course, but that's just putting it in the oven and making sure it doesn't scorch.

Soon I'll start sculpting the deer! I'm looking forward to finishing the dog, since all that stuff happened and I had to put the dog on hold it feels like I've been sculpting it forever. lol

I finished the basset hound tonight! It took quite a while to finish the furring, so it wasn't really feasible for me to have finished it last night. After I finished the furring, I sculpted the ears and tail.

Once I was finished I showed the dog to Scottie and he really liked it! He'd been having problems visualizing the breed until they were added. It really adds more than you'd think. o_O A basset hound without ears looks really weird.

This is the first sculpture that didn't actually fit in my sculpting toaster oven though! I tried to make it fit after I'd heated it up, but the top of the head scraped across the heating element and I had to pull it out. After I pulled it out I had to remove the slightly baked clay off the top of the head and refur that spot. It looks alright now though. Freaked me out a bit though. It could juuuuust fit in the toaster oven, but the head would have been so close to the heating elements that I'm sure it would have scorched. So I have it baking in the regular oven. It's supposed to be ok if you just wipe the oven out later. Scottie said he'd clean it tomorrow, so that's all set.

I'm so happy to have the basset hound finished, it felt like I'd been sculpting it forever since I had that sculpting hiatus!

Tomorrow (hopefully) I'll start my next sculpture! It will be a deer. :3
