milleniumgypsy: (beluga blowing bubbles)
Ok, so I'm writing this post up a little late as it is the next morning, but I did sculpt yesterday! lol I'm trying to get myself to go to sleep on a more regular schedule and I didn't have enough time to post last night by the time I wanted to go to bed.

So the seal is taking a bit longer to finish than the others, and part of that is because of the clay mix. The fimo soft addition seems to make it take longer to blend, which is alright really. It's just slower for progress, but I'm nearly finished.

Last night I sculpted a bit on the face to make it sleeker. It's supposed to be a harp seal and while it does look like one it's a bit stocky for my taste. I didn't want to push the head too much out of shape though (again with the poor clay mix!), so I'm mostly leaving it as it is. I think I'll do another one after the challenge so I have a more "perfect" seal, but this on is still cute. :3

I then attached the head to the body and sculpted the neck. I also shaped the tail end and sculpted some details to the sides. Once I'd done that I had to put the seal back in the fridge because the entire thing was pretty warm.

Today I'm going to sculpt and add the flippers! Then I think all that's left is sculpting on the fur and baking. Hopefully this clay mix bakes alright!

So tonight I finished sculpting the seal! It really does take longer to sculpt with this mix, but I succeeded at finishing anyway! lol I added on the flippers, and I have to mention how strange it looked as I was putting the parts on! Once they were all on it looked fine, but I guess seals are kind of strange looking. heh

I then sculpted on the fur, and I think it looks really good. It's baking now, I'll have to see how that goes. I'll probably post a quick update on how the baking went on my next entry. Unless of course the seal catches on fire or something before finishing. Which I really hope doesn't happen. lol

The original pose was supposed to be just sort of laying down on the ground, but I ended up posing the seal more like it's swimming. I think it looks pretty nice. hehe

Tomorrow I will start the next project, a bear!
