doggeh stuff
Aug. 6th, 2004 04:06 pmThings are going well with my new dog. (my new Chihuahua) He's so cute! At first he was really nervous, and the first day he spent a fair amount of time under the couch. But he started warming up to us soon enough. n.n
He's still a bit skittish if you sneak up on him or something, but otherwise he's good. He likes me to carry him around. n.n Which is something I like to do, in fact, I do the same with my dog all the time! Only, it's easier to do with Charlie, since he's prolly a lot less than 10 lbs. Gesunt prolly wieghs somewhere in the area of 50 lbs. heh He's not actually a lap dog, I only treat him like one (and he only acts like one. xD)
Oh, and a funny thing was when we went to pick up the dogs, mom introduced us to the lady and said I was her oldest at 21 and I was in college. She was like O.O 'You're 21?! I thought you were 14!' I laughed and said I get that -all- the time. Which I do. heh
One day soon I should post pics of both dogs. lol
There is only one problem with Charlie. The lady that had him had him both paper-trained and outside trained. She gave us some puppy pads to use, and we have one in the kitchen (it's supposed to be a safeguard for the time being, we do not want him pooping or peeing in the house). So far he's been good about peeing outside, but one day he pooped a little bit on the puppy pad, then he pooped on a carpet. xP Mom's reaction was to take up the puppy pad and not put another one down. But she didn't yell at him or do *anything* to show him that what he did was wrong. This morning he pooped on the floor. (this always happens before I wake up xP) and still she didn't give him any indication that what he did was wrong. But she did say if he keeps doing it we will have to get rid of him. But what the fuck?! Is he just supposed to know by ESP what he is doing is wrong? She says that if she yells at him he won't understand. Bullshit. If she brings him over to his poop and scolds him about it, eventually he will figure out that's what's making her mad, and hopefully he won't do it anymore. When we first got my dog he was 'mostly' housebroken, as his previous owners said. (previous owners being my former best friend's family, this was a while back. My dogs around 8 now... He was in horrid condition when we got him, matts down to the skin, fed nothing but the cheapest dry food, he has a bump on his head and you can feel where he had broken ribs, he was kept outside or in the basement always, etc... we got him at about 11 months. He's epileptic too. But this is a different entry entirely. :P) Anyway, Gesunt is the sweetest dog you will ever meet, but when we first got him he did poop in the house a few times. Upstairs in my brother's room (why there? I don't know) We scolded him and we brought him to the poop. He did figure out that's why we were mad at him, and he stopped. He doesn't poop in the house anymore of course, unless he's really sick and can't help it (he has an extremely senstive stomach, prolly due to his extremely poor diet when he was a puppy), and if he does, he knows he's been bad, and acts all guilty and stuff. (this is a very rare thing if it happens though, maybe once a year or something)
But my point here is that my mom seems to think that if we just let him keep pooping on the floor, we keep cleaning it up, and not saying anything about it, he will get the picture that he's not supposed to do that. But if this sure-fire method doesn't work, we'll get rid of him. WTF?
-sigh- Any suggestions?
