milleniumgypsy: (Fox and the Hound lone)
So today was kind of an epic sculpting day!

First I finished sculpting the front and back legs, furred them, and then baked them with the already finished tail. Those items need to be prebaked so I wanted to make sure they were done first so that they'd be ready.

I sculpted the ears and attached them to the head, then I furred the head and ruff. Next I attached the baked legs to the body, and then sculpted the shoulders and hindquarters. Then I attached the tail and sculpted the little bit around that.

Once I finished all that up, I furred the rest of the body. Then I didn't really want to leave it overnight because I was afraid something might happen to it, I just went ahead and baked it. That took about an hour and a half and was another two part bake. First it needed to be baked standing for 20 minutes which is always scary! This time though I gave it more support so it wouldn't fall over like the fawn did. However, one of the legs broke in the same way that the deer foot did. Now I didn't have too much trouble fixing the deer hoof so I'm not too concerned, but I'm bummed out that it happened again. I'm not sure if it's the stress or air inside of the leg around the armature. I'll see what happens next time.

I'm really very happy with how the fox turned out though other than the break! I'm excited to get it painted up. :3

While I was waiting for the fox to bake I was preparing the clay for my next project, in between babysitting the stove anyway. (I didn't have the right spot for the stove temp at first and it kept getting too hot).

My next project is a frog, which is kind of funny. This is the first time I went with mixing coloured clays instead of just using straight Super Sculpey. Before I left for Pilot Michaels had a really good sale on Premo coloured clay which actually made it cheaper than regular Super Sculpey so I wanted to try some out.

Anyway, time for bed! Sad that my holiday weekend is over but I got a lot of sculpting done this weekend (as well as other things!) so that makes me happy. :3
