Sculpting challenge: Day 30!
Jan. 23rd, 2012 11:22 pmSo tonight I continued the deer fawn sculpt. I'm really happy with how it's turning out! I was pretty happy with how the head was looking, but it was a bit too blunt for what I was thinking it should be. Scottie suggested too that it needed to be changed a bit too, so I decided to work on the face more and I am really happy with how that turned out! I need to add more to the eyelids because I think it's still a bit too wide-eyed, and I sort of want to add some more to the forehead but it's nearly finished.
I also worked on the body and got that mostly fleshed out. I attached the head and got the neck area in order. I made ears but I haven't attached those yet. I think that will really make it look more natural! I might wait to see if I actually need more forehead, ears really make a difference. Plus they come with more clay around them so I might not actually need more clay.
I'm also considering building up the jawbone a bit, but I'm not sure on that either. lol
I have the wires cut and prepared for the leg armature, but I haven't done any sculpting with that just yet.
I need to sculpt the legs, then fur and bake them separately. After they're baked I can sculpt them onto the deer and bake. I'm probably going to do the final body sculpt and furring when I know that I can bake it the same day because that's a lot of stress on the bits of clay holding the legs to the body!
I was really fired up about sculpting the deer today! I think finishing the basset hound and being happy with it got me back into the swing of things. It just ended up taking me so long to do the one sculpt!
