Health care
Jul. 16th, 2009 08:22 amI'm so annoyed. Public option healthcare is socialism! Horror stories from other countries! Scare tactics, it worked before! Oooh most people are insured, or they actually don't want to buy insurance! Yeah, I don't reeeeally want insurance. I LIKE spending two grand (almost) on going to the ER for my surprise sprained ankle. And I almost didn't go to the ER because I'm not insured and couldn't really afford to go.
While I was an observer I had some insurance, but Scottie had no insurance because there was no family plan. Family plans don't usually even work for us, because family plans don't account for a couple without kids. The family plan is so expensive we usually can't afford it because it's too much for one extra person. But that's irrelevant because there was no family plan. And really my health insurance -only- covered me while I was on the boat. If I sprained my ankle walking through town while waiting to get on a boat... I'd be paying for it myself.
We don't have the best system in the world. Now, I'm sure that the senators and congressmen who are so against it and think that we do have the best system in the world... when was the last time they had to worry about going to the doctors? Since many politicians come from wealthy families... did they ever have to worry about going to the doctors? Of course they're going to think it's a great system.
My disabled grandma (severe rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, emphysema, congestive heart, hardening lungs, diabetes, missing a leg, etc) had to get a divorce to have access to health care. Isn't that ridiculous. And why did this happen? Well, they had health insurance via my grampa for years. He was 'let go' two years short of his retirement age because they didn't want to pay for his insurance any more.
I'm just sick to death of all the 'ong, public option health care is socialism!!11 Tell your senator you don't want it!' ads I've been seeing on tv.
