So I've realized I haven't actually updated my journal in a while. Oops.

So, I've moved out of Seward to Anchorage. Anchorage is a metropolis, which sucks, but at least it has stuff. That's something. Scottie got a job right before we moved out here, working in accounting. The day that we were moving out of our Seward apartment I severely sprained my ankle. We were also homeless for a week because the application process for the apartment (that I wasn't expecting to do) took a week longer than the landlord thought, because WY takes a 7-14 business days to process a criminal background check. While the other states we've lived in (MI and ID together, ME for me and CO for Scottie, all got back to the landlord within a couple of days. -_- It would have been nice if the property manager had -known- that WY took a minimum of a week... then we wouldn't have spent a ~$700 staying in hotels because she was always expecting to get us into our apt. the next day. ~_~ If it hadn't been for my ankle we would have just camped... but me hobbling around on crutches in an aircast eating vicodin doesn't equal a good time to camp. Things weren't exactly falling our way.

Anyway, we're finally moved in to our new place in Anchorage. It's a pretty nice place, a couple of miles from campus. It's also in the nice part of town, where it's more woodsy and less urban. And unlike staying in the observer bunkhouse, which isn't in the nice part of town, I don't hear nightly police chases or see sketchy people hanging around liquor stores.

My ankle is getting better, slowly but surely. The doctor said that it should take 6 weeks to fully recover, and it's been about four weeks.

I'm getting my classes set up for this coming fall. I've been accepted to Alaska Pacific University with partial funding. They have the best masters program in Alaska, which is nice. I'm either going to be working with marine invertebrates or marine mammals for my research. I'm a research assistant, not a teaching assistant. There is something to be said for not having to TA.

We have a new pet, a light blue parakeet we named Ippo. We've had him for a couple weeks, and are starting to hand tame him. First he had an adjustment period of a week, then we started to bring him out of the cage to get used to us. He's up to the point of hopping on your finger and coming out of the cage without a fuss. We got him a large cockatiel cage with lots of toys to rotate. Once he's more tame we'll let him out of the cage regularly. He will be spoiled. We might get him a friend in the future, but just not now.
