I finally picked out my computer. I found a good deal on a desktop in the paper, applied that coupon to a desktop, and created a pc with my specifications on Dell. It came out to under $500 including tax and shipping. I was even getting a free printer in the deal. Not that I -need- a printer, but hey, I'm not going to refuse a free printer. Mom said that she could take it and replace hers, because she knows that I don't need a printer because of the one I have at the apt.
I was very happy. Finally a computer so I could connect back with the world when I was at the apt! And I can talk to Scottie from the apt. Yes, that is rather important to me.
Ok, I get to the payment page. Eep. Ok, I have the choice of using credit/debit cards or applying for a Dell Preferred Account. I have no credit or debit cards. Mom is who is buying the computer though. She has no credit or debit cards.
Ooook, so we have to try for the Dell account. Their interest rates are outrageous, but if you qualify you can have no interest for 6 months, and mom would be able to pay off the computer in that time, especially because income tax will come in before that. Mom's even bought a Dell before, and paid it off early. It should work, right?
Mom qualified to get an account. She didn't qualify for the interest. So the interest on the computer from day one will be 30%? I don't think so! x.x
So. I can't get a computer from Dell. (and no, I don't qualify for that either, I tried. I don't really have much of a credit history, though I've paid off student loans. But still not much of a credit history. Add to that I am currently unemployed and don't own a house. Yeah, like they'd give me anything. xP)
Now, after all that, and finally finding myself the perfect desktop computer (still want a laptop, but I would make due :P) I am back looking for a bloody computer.
-_-
I was very upset, because it didn't look like at first that mom would buy from anyone but Dell. Even though she was mad at them.
I haven't tried anyone else yet. But I don't know if anyone will give us any sort of reasonable credit and/or good offers on credit. Mom isn't going to get a credit card, so that's out of the question. I have thought that possibly getting a credit card with good interest rates and/or promotional things and using it to get the computer (and nothing else) would be a good idea, then paying it off and getting rid of the card... but I think if I would suggest that mom would regard me as Satan Incarnate. I didn't even say that and she was freaking out at me because she thought I was suggesting it. And at the time, I wasn't.
So. I am back on the hunt for a computer. The thought of never getting a computer for my apt is very depressing. I don't like being so isolated from the people I love...
Anyway. So I was looking at a mac mini. They aren't horribly expensive, but I still have to buy a moniter, keyboard, and mouse. The mac mini I would want would be $600. Then I have to get everything else for it. Nice though.
I could get a laptop from Compaq for a little over $700. It would have everything I want, and it would be a laptop, which is what I wanted to begin with. But I sort of feel like I'm fighting a losing battle, because I'm going to go thru all the hassle of ordering computers and find out that I can't get them.
