labs

Well, I just got out of my first fish bio lab. Our first assignment was to take one of the fish that was brought in (they were all fresh fish, one was this big ol trout, there was a lamphrey, and various other small fish. I took one of the smaller fish. I hindsight it prolly would have been more interesting to take the lamphrey, but I didn't want to be the one stuck with the trout, so I kinda grabbed the last small fish kinda fast. Plus, the fish looked pretty obviously like a smelt, so I know something about it already, and it had a big belly (for lack of a better word) so I wanted to see if it had eggs (which I was pretty positive that it did). It did have eggs. Anyway... we got to dissect them and write down as many observations as we could for 2 hours. It was kind of fun. By the time we were done there was nothing left to my fish. lol However, now my hands smell like rubber gloves, and my pen smells like fish, because I continued to write with it after I had started the dissection (what else was I supposed to do? lol). I washed the pen of course, but it still smells faintly of fish. Maybe it will wear off.

At 2 I get to go to my environmental geology lab, which is 3 hours long. I don't know exactly what's going to go on, because I haven't actually been to the first class... Remember how I said that I needed to replace my genetics class with something? Well, as much as I wanted to have an art class, I couldn't fit one into a time slot... so I took the geology class instead. But since I signed up for it while the class was going on I missed the first class. Now today I have to go to the first lab without having been to the first class. Uh... this is going to be interesting. :P

In other news, I'm sleepy. I hate it when I have early classes or labs! :P

Hmmm

Well, I got out of my geology lab early actually, I wonder if this will be a common occurance. As of right now, I don't know if it's just because it's the first lab, or if all the labs will be kinda short. I ended up not walking in til I was like 2 minutes late... not that it's a big deal or anything. I ended up being part of a group of 2 lol. Most ppl were in groups of 3 or 4. Most were in groups of 4. *nods* But there was another guy that obviously had just got there too, and he didn't have anyone either. It's kind of funny that I ended up being his partner, cause I saw him checking me out when I walked in the room. haha. I'm assuming that he didn't mind being my partner then lol. He was entertaining, which made it more interesting. He also writes for the Daily Bull (as was appperent by his shirt which bore the logo, and someone asked what it meant and he told them that he wrote for it).
The Daily Bull is our school satire paper. (does it's name sound like it's not a satire paper? heh) Our official paper is The Lode, which the D.B. likes to insult. xD I like the Daily Bull, and try to get a hold of each new issue, but sometimes it's out before I can get a copy. I think possibly reading this paper for 3 years has tainted my mind, but I don't particularly care. xD

It's kind of funny that I have this class, because when I was initially looking at my schedule and figuring out where my classes were, I had at first thought that my fish biology class was held in Dillman Hall, and I was like hey, I've never had a class in that building before! It's the only one that I haven't had a class in yet. But then I realised I had looked at the wrong number and fish bio is acutally in the EERC building. But then when I signed up for this geology class, I saw that it was held in Dillman Hall. haha I guess I was meant to take a class there sooner or later.
Not to say I've never been in Dillman before, I've walked thru it to get to other buildings, and it was actually one of the first places on campus I've ever been too, because one year when I was in high school me and my local history class came here to visit the Seamen Mineral Museum, but I've never had a class there before.

You know, sometimes I wonder about the people who named that museum though. And you know what's really interesting? We tend to abbrevieate the names of the buildings around here, like I say the MUB and I mean the Memorial Union Building, etc... Well, Dillman hall is right across from the new building, which is abbreviated the CILIT. So there is a sign advertising the Seamen Mineral Museum right across from the CILIT... (come on now, it's a running joke at my school) Now, if you don't get what I'm talking about, you prolly don't want to know... (did I say my mind wasn't tainted? No? Good.)

Still, that's nothing compared to the other college in my area. It's smaller, if you want a business degree that's prolly a good place to go, whatever... It used to be called Suomi College, and I didnt think that was a bad name. However, they decided to change the name to... dundunduuuuun... Finlandia University. Not only does that sound so stupid, but guess what it's intials are? Why FU of course! Isn't that lovely? So you see ppl walking around with FU logos proudly emblazoned on their shirts/hoodies/whatever... The first time I saw the logo on the back window of someone's care the first thing I thought of was that they had a sticker to mean fuck you! And I was like oh that's nice! After I thought a little bit I was like, wait a sec! That's a Finlandia sticker! Way to go Suomi, you must have needed a new running joke or something. o.O
